A few designs don't need as much of an impact (or are shorter) as well, and those are smaller. Generally, just try to get a sense of how it will look on the shirt and be appealing and readable.

I would also recommend that you only use the pigment dyed shirts as opposed to the direct dye shirts. Pigment dye sits on top of the cotton fabric, and gradually fades over time. Direct dye binds to the cotton and won't fade.
