MONACO (AP) — Barcelona’s perfect start to the season ended with a 2-1 loss at Monaco in the revamped Champions League on Thursday, a defeat which happened after defender Eric Garcia was sent off after 11 minutes.

The first week of the new-look Champions League came to an end on Thursday, with Barcelona and Arsenal both in action.

The new Champions League format forces teams to go for the win, Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone said after his side fought back from a deficit to grab a late 2-1 victory over RB Leipzig on Thursday.

Former Scotland captain Gemma Fay believes Celtic will progress to the Champions League group stage, and says it would be "massive" for the SWPL. Two home games against Ukrainian champions Vorskla Poltova - with the first leg on Sunday - stand between Elena Sadiku's side and the competition proper and Fay believes her former side have a "huge opportunity" to do so.
