The Seminoles trailed 24-23 with under five minutes left to play. FSU eventually got hot at the right time, shooting 50 percent from behind the arc, and led 37-27 at the half. It translated handsomely in the second half when FSU outscored UMass 55-32. FSU led by as many as 36 points and coasted the rest of the game.

UMass had already lost games to Hofstra and Temple, two teams that FSU had beaten, so this should've been an easy win on paper. It was a solid start for FSU. UMass decided to go matchup zone for most of the game,
