Gaza’s Health Ministry says over 40,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the Israel-Hamas war began. It does not differentiate between fighters and civilians in its count. The war has caused vast destruction and displaced around 90% of Gaza’s population of 2.3 million, often multiple times.

Israeli military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said that the video of the tunnel was shown to the families of the hostages that are believed to have been killed. According to Hagari, it "was very hard for them to see how their loved ones survived in those conditions."

Israel said its jets struck Hamas terrorists in a command and control center inside a humanitarian zone in Gaza, but Hamas denied that it had fighters in the area and said dozens of people were killed in the attack that struck tents housing displaced people.
