The efforts to ‘peacefully’ redirect the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest march from Islamabad’s D-Chowk were thwarted by the assertive role of former first lady Bushra Bibi, Dawn reported, citing sources.

Bushra Bibi, Imran Khan's wife, has emerged as a key figure in Pakistan's political turmoil, leading protests for his release and solidifying her role as a prominent PTI leader.

The unrest was sparked by Khan's imprisonment at Rawalpindi 's Adiala Jail since August 2023 on several charges. Despite a court order barring a planned rally on November 24, PTI supporters gathered at D-Chowk in Islamabad, demanding Khan's release. The protesters broke through barriers in the high-security zone near important government buildings.
