With virtually no warning, Kendrick Lamar released GNX on Friday, November 22. Lamar worked on his follow-up to Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers with Sounwave, Jack Antonoff, Mustard, Kamasi Washington, SZA, Deyra Barrera, Roddy Ricch, Terrace Martin, and more.

From West Coast rap pioneers to the movies that changed the world, Kendrick’s latest video contains plenty of nods to pop culture.

As we previously told you, the aforementioned song is the second track on Lamar’s recently released album “GNX” which dropped to the surprise of damn near everyone on Nov. 22. The 12-song project was supremely West coast-coded and featured some classic samples, interpolations and vocals.

Just a few days after dropping his surprise album GNX, Kendrick Lamar has released the video for track number two, “squabble up”–a bouncy production sampling Debbie Deb where all Kendrick’s dynamic inflections get their deserved airtime. The action-packed video treatment comes from Calmatic, a regular creative partner of the Compton-born rapper.

During Kendrick Lamar’s increasingly vitriolic back-and-forth with Drake earlier this year, Questlove stepped in to express his dismay at how dark things got during their tiff, prompting some hip-hop fans to snub the veteran producer for being overly dramatic and out-of-touch.

Kendrick Lamar’s “squabble up” was first teased in the “Not Like Us” video, prompting fans to ask for it endlessly. The single arrived on the new GNX album and is immediately running up the streams. The single is expected to end Shaboozey’s streak on top of the Billboard 200 with “A Bar Song (Tipsy).”
