An escaped Alabama inmate and his alleged accomplice were arrested Sunday in Melissa after a suspect’s vehicle was spotted in a Buc-ee’s parking lot, officials said. Shortly after 1:45 p.m., Melissa officers were alerted that an escaped inmate may be in their jurisdiction.

MPD said the car then exited the parking lot, heading north on the frontage road where police initiated a traffic stop. The escaped inmate and the driver of the car, who had an active felony warrant for aiding the inmate's escape, surrendered without incident, police said.

An escaped inmate from Marion County, Alabama was captured after being located in a Buc-ee's parking lot in North Texas, officials said.

The Melissa Police Department was alerted to the possibility of the escaped inmate being in the area just after 1:45 p.m. Sunday.
