Russian leader Vladimir Putin will not travel to Mexico, which has signed the Rome Statute, for the inauguration of elected President Claudia Sheinbaum. Ukraine has requested the arrest of the Kremlin leader should he visit the country.

By Alek Buttermann Mexican President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum has declined an invitation from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to visit Ukraine, reaffirming Mexico’s commitment to neutrality in international conflicts.

Mexico signed the Rome Statute in 2005 and is subject to the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court, which issued the arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

First lady Jill Biden will head up the U.S. delegation to Mexican President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum’s inauguration amid debate in Mexico over the official guest list, which also includes Russian President Vladimir Putin.
