In 2020, roughly 56% of Oregon voters approved Measure 109, which allowed for the manufacture and controlled, therapeutic use of psilocybin at licensed facilities for those over 21. But the measure allowed counties and cities to vote to opt out, resulting in a patchwork of regulations across the state.

Psilocybin bans passed in all but one of the 17 Oregon jurisdictions that floated the idea. The list: Lake Oswego, Warrenton, Seaside, Oregon City, Estacada, Hubbard, Amity, Sheridan, Mt. Angel, Jefferson, Lebanon, Redmond, Sutherlin, Rogue River, Brookings and unincorporated Clackamas County.

Oregon’s first psilocybin service centers opened around a year ago, providing psychedelic mushrooms to treat conditions like PTSD. One center in Southern Oregon is trying to increase access with group-psychedelic experiences — like a magic mushroom concert.
