The zoological society is now calling for greater restrictions on the extensive fireworks displays that are a trademark of Bonfire Night, also known as Guy Fawkes Night, the Nov. 5 celebration named after a participant in a failed plot in 1605 to kill King James I.

The death of a baby Red Panda is believed to have been caused by fireworks set off for a holiday. Zookeepers at the Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland say that it was pyrotechnics that caused their 3-month-old panda Roxie to choke on her own vomit after being stressed by the commotion going on November 5.

The three-month-old red panda cub named Roxie died on Bonfire Night at her enclosure. The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), which runs the zoo, has said there was “probably” a link to fireworks being let off in the city centre and the death.
