There are relatively few works that deserve to bear the title of “masterpiece,” but The Electric State is certainly one of them — the quiet, heavy, contemplative atmosphere; a young girl’s colorful-yet-fraught past that gave way to a devastating future;

Netflix's new sci-fi movie with a star-studded cast, The Electric State, is based on a graphic novel of the same name, but they're quite different.

Critics may not like Netflix’s The Electric State movie, but that won’t stop The Electric State from becoming a smash hit for the streamer. Directed by Marvel alums Anthony and Joe Russo, and written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely—who adapted the screenplay from Simon Stålenhag’s graphic novel of the same name—The Electric State stars Millie Bobby Brown as a teenager named Michelle.

The problem isn't that Netflix's The Electric State takes liberties with its source material; it's that the original book is much, much better.
