On Tuesday at 3:20 p.m. the National Weather Service issued a lake effect snow warning valid from Wednesday 4 p.m. until Thursday 4 p.m. for Northern Erie and Southern Erie.

For those who don’t see the snow, you’ll see some sunshine, but feel the chill with a brisk wind making temperatures in the 20s feel more like lower teens. Friday will be much quieter but still cold with some sunshine, and we’ll start to moderate our temperatures by the weekend. While Saturday is dry, we’ll see some showers returning on Sunday.

The lake effect snow band has settled southward again, targeting southern Erie County and the southern tier, giving South Buffalo and the immediate Buffalo southtowns a chance to dig out during the day Sunday.

The mid-December warmup is going to be short-lived. The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning for Jefferson, Lewis and Oswego counties starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday and lasting through 7 p.

Northern Erie County is expected to receive 10-to-20 inches in the most persistent bands between Wednesday night and Friday early afternoon, the National Weather Service Buffalo said.
