As Deadline points out, it’s the first Spielberg film in quite some time positioned as a summer tentpole; his biggest films of the last two decades have tended towards the awards-bait winter holidays slot.

Josh O’Connor is set to co-star opposite Emily Blunt in the untitled film from Steven Spielberg, Amblin and Universal. O’Connor joins a cast that includes Colin Firth, Coleman Domingo and Eve Hewson. The pic is based on a story by Spielberg and has the filmmaker’s longtime collaborator David Koepp penning the script.

Challengers star Josh O’Connor has signed on to star in Steven Spielberg ’s latest feature project. Universal Pictures is backing the untitled event film, which already has Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo, Colin Firth and Eve Hewson on the call sheet.

O’Connor is currently filming “The Mastermind” with co-star Alana Haim and director Kelly Reichart. He will also appear in Rian Johnson’s third “Knives Out” film, “Wake Up Dead Man,” which will be released by Netflix next year.
