What started as a buzzy campaign starring one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actresses quickly spiraled into a sprawling cultural debate.

Sweeney’s ad with American Eagle faced some backlash over its use of the word “genes” instead of “jeans,” resulting in many conservative pundits defending the popular actress. Trump told reporters that he loved the ad after being told Sweeney was a registered Republican.

White House spokesman Steve Cheung, has also come out against critics of the ads. “Cancel culture run amok,” he wrote on X. “This warped, moronic, and dense liberal thinking is a big reason why Americans voted the way they did in 2024. They're tired of this bullshit.”
