As storm surge overtook the houses on Davis Islands, one house caught on fire off Blanca Avenue. First responders were unable to reach the home because of the high water, according to reporting from 10 Tampa Bay’s Eric Glasser. Fortunately, there were no injuries or deaths related to the fire.

Tampa General was built in the mid 1920s on Davis Islands in Hillsborough Bay. People still wonder why they would build it there just a few years after the big hurricane of 1921 – the last time Tampa suffered a direct hit from a major hurricane. The City of Tampa posted the following information on its Facebook page.
