A deadly winter storm may be winding down for some, but extremely cold weather will persist. Here are the latest updates on power outages and forecasts.
The dangerous and deadly cold is only going to get more brutal, with record-breaking temperatures as far south as Florida.
Deep snow — over a foot extending in a 1,300-mile swath from Arkansas to New England — halted traffic, canceled flights and triggered wide school cancellations Monday. Up to two feet were forecast in some of the harder-hit places.
A weekend warm-up for Detroit is expected to begin on Saturday, when the high temperature may hit 17, and the low dips to 5, according to the National Weather Service. The trend should continue Sunday when the forecast calls for a high of 22 and a low of 8. Michigan's recent deep freeze has meant snow and ice.
Late Saturday through early next week, South Florida and the Treasure Coast may see its coldest air since December 2010.
