Only a few gates from the finish line — and the possibility of an unprecedented 100th career FIS World Cup win — U.S. skier Mikeala Shiffrin caught an edge during the second run of the giant slalom competition and suffered a painful crash into the side fencing over the weekend at Vermont’s Killington Cup.

Mikaela Shiffrin suffered an abrasion near her hip and said there was “not really too much cause for concern” after crashing at an Alpine skiing World Cup giant slalom in Killington, Vermont, on Saturday.

The Vermont-schooled Olympian aimed to make Alpine skiing history at the international racing circuit’s Thanksgiving weekend stop in the Green Mountain State. The “boilerplate ice” course had other plans.
