Speaking on the occasion, the governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan said that he had come to express his condolences to the Ismaili community on the instructions of President Asif Ali Zardari. He said that the Pakistan People’s Party equally shares the grief and sorrow of the Ismaili community on the death of Prince Karim Aga Khan.

Hussaini, the Aga Khan IV and 49th Imam of Nizari Ismaili Muslims, died February 4. He was 88. The Aga Khan’s eldest son, Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini, has been designated the Aga Khan V.

By Bruce Pannier Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, the spiritual leader of some 15 million Ismaili Muslims worldwide, died in Portugal on February 4 aged 88. The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) announced the passing of the “49th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims and direct descendant of the Prophet Muhammad” on their website.

Prince Karim Aga Khan, the spiritual leader of the global Ismaili community, passed away on Tuesday, leaving his tens of millions of followers across the world in mourning, the Diwan of the Ismaili Imamat said in a statement in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Following Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly's official approval on Saturday, Prince Karim Al-Hussaini (Aga Khan IV), the 49th imam of the Ismaili Muslim community, was buried in the Aga Khan Mausoleum in Aswan on Sunday.

Hussaini, Aga Khan IV, the 49th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, passed away peacefully at the age of 88, in Lisbon, Portugal, surrounded by his family.

Last week, Prince Rahim al-Hussaini ’95 was named the spiritual leader of millions of Ismaili Muslims after his father, the former leader, passed away on Feb. 4. Al-Hussaini is now Aga Khan V, a title given to the 50th imam of the Nizari Ismaili branch of Shia Islam.
