Minnesota House lawmakers will take up a proposal on Thursday for some major renovations to Downtown St. Paul.

St. Paul has put a hefty price tag on its long-awaited plan to reinvent a crucial swath of downtown, including the Minnesota Wild’s Xcel Energy Center. For $769 million, the city would overhaul the NHL arena as well as the neighboring Roy Wilkins Auditorium and St.

The costs for renovations are estimated at $769 million. The city is asking the state to pay for half of those costs, with the Minnesota Wild owner funding 30% and the city putting forward the other 20%. City officials said this is its top priority for the 2025 legislative session.
