BMW swept the top two spots in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Battle on the Bricks at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

As a team owner, Rahal’s first victory at the Brickyard in 2004 was a rain-shortened affair won by Buddy Rice. As soon as the checkers were waved, a packed house of fans were told to leave the Speedway under an evacuation order due to an approaching tornado, which dumped a sustained deluge on the track and along the entire length of 16th Street.

Sebastien Bourdais captured the pole position for the Battle at the Bricks, putting the No. 01 Cadillac Racing Cadillac V-Series.R atop the starting grid for the six-hour race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Bourdais’s lap of 1:14.592 was enough to give him his first pole in nearly two dozen races at IMS between IndyCar and sports cars.

The six-hour Battle on the Bricks endurance race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course is set for 56 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship entries on 22 September.

Bourdais won the pole by .225 seconds over Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Global’s Louis Deletraz. Porsche Penske Motorsport’s Mathieu Jaminet, who was quickest in practice Friday, was third fastest, then Action Express Racing’s Jack Aitken. BMW M Team RLL’s Connor de Phillippi was fifth.
