At least five carwashes across Los Angeles County and Orange County have been raided since Sunday, according to one labor group.

Protesters began gathering early on the west steps of the state Capitol in Sacramento as a so-called “No Kings” protest against Trump administration policies, part of a nationwide day of demonstrations meant to coincide with a military parade marking the 250th anniversary of the U.

More than 1,500 events were announced throughout the U.S. to send a loud message to President Donald Trump: “In America, we don’t do kings.”

Unions have backed immigrant rights in California and have been on the forefront of resisting the Trump administration’s deportations.

They are trying to strike a careful balance on issues where Republicans have held a political advantage in recent years.

At a peaceful vigil in downtown Los Angeles, interfaith community leaders came together for prayer, support and healing.

The protest comes before leaders vote on whether or not to pass a budget that is expected to lock new undocumented immigrants out of Medi-Cal.

Democratic policies regarding immigration has evolved as attitudes have hardened after record border crossings during Joe Biden's administration.
