The Palisades, Eaton and Hurst wildfires in Southern California have destroyed more than 12,000 structures, raising the likelihood of a spike in demand for lumber in the months and years ahead.

Multiple wildfires have pushed tens of thousands of residents to flee their homes, and strong winds have exacerbated the emergency, officials say.

The American Red Cross is helping wildfire victims find shelter and food. Call the American Red Cross hotline at 1-800-RED CROSS or text CAWILDFIRES to 90999 to make a donation. The nonprofit organization urged Californians to sign up to give blood, noting that blood donations have dropped since the fires began.
