Village People’s 1978 hit “ YMCA ” is the group’s most enduring song, and the hit single is frequently described as a “gay anthem” ( even the Library Of Congress thinks it is ). However, the band’s Victor Willis, who sings the song and wrote its lyrics, disagrees.

A singer and co-writer on the Village People megahit “Y.M.C.A.” says the 1978 tune has “benefited greatly” from being a favorite on President-elect Trump’s playlist. In a Monday post on Facebook, Victor Willis described why he “allowed President-elect Trump’s continued use” of the song over the years.
