Alex Ovechkin's pursuit of Wayne Gretzky's all-time NHL goals got a massive boost on Sunday, with the Washington Capitals star scoring not just one, not two, but three goals in a 7-3 win at the Capital One Arena in Washington over the Edmonton Oilers.

Alex Ovechkin scored his 880th, 881st and 882nd career goals to record a hat trick and move 13 goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s NHL record and give the Washington Capitals a 7-3 victory over Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday,

Making the day even more special for Ovechkin was the presence of his family in the arena. Ovechkin's wife, Anastasia Shubskaya, and their two sons, Sergei and Ilya, were both in attendance to watch the 39-year-old and three-time Hart Memorial Trophy winner in action.
