President Cyril Ramaphosa said Friday he expected Volodymyr Zelensky to visit South Africa soon for talks on ending the conflict in Ukraine, which was invaded by Russia nearly three years ago .

South Africa is set to host Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky on a state visit, President Cyril Ramaphosa confirmed on X without giving a specific date. The invite comes at the end of a week which saw Kyiv excluded from US-Russia talks on how to bring an end to the three-year war in Ukraine.

The two leaders had agreed on "the urgent need for an inclusive peace process that involves all parties," Ramaphosa said.

Former President Trump asserts BRICS is breaking apart and threatens a 150% tariff, accusing them of challenging the US dollar. BRICS includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa and has recently been expanding.

An index of global shares was lower on Wednesday, pressured by choppy trading on Wall Street and a dip in European stocks, as U.S. President Donald Trump's latest tariff threats on auto, semiconductor and pharmaceutical imports injected a sense of caution into the markets.

During a meeting with Republican governors on Feb. 20, broadcast by NBC News, Donald Trump discussed the BRICS nations’ plans to create a new currency and potentially use the yuan. Trump said, "The first thing I said was: any BRICS country that mentions the destruction of the dollar will be subject to 150% tariffs.
