Storm Éowyn has been named by the Met Office and will bring severe gales to parts of the United Kingdom on Friday. The Met Office has issued yellow warnings for wind on Friday and Saturday.

“The strongest gusts are likely to be felt across parts of Northern Ireland, northern England, northwestern Wales and western Scotland, where exposed sites could get gusts in excess of 80mph, which has the potential to cause impacts for those in these areas. There will also be some heavy rain, bringing some unpleasant conditions to end the week.

A weather warning for wind is set to come into place across the whole of Northern Ireland. The yellow alert issued by the Met Office comes into force at midnight on Friday, January 24, and will remain in place until 11.59pm. This is due to Storm Éowyn, the fifth named storm of the season and the first of 2025.

A tornado warning has been issued for parts of England as the UK and Ireland prepare for winds of up to 125mph from Storm Eowyn. The European Storm Forecast Experiment (Estofex) has issued a level two alert for southern England on Thursday,

Multiple warnings have been issued across Northern Ireland as Storm Éowyn makes its way. The storm is expected to bring possible damage and disruption to parts of Ireland and the UK as it tracks east from the Atlantic.
