Governor-Elect Kelly Armstrong has appointed Lt. Daniel J. Haugen as Superintendent of the North Dakota Highway Patrol, effective December 15, 2024. Col. Brandon Solberg is retiring from law enforcement on November 30 after nearly 6½ years as the Highway Patrol superintendent.

Field commander Lt. Daniel Haugen will replace Col. Brandon Solberg, who has accepted a position in the Office of Management and Budget after serving the position for 6 years.

The Highway Patrol will have a new superintendent on Sunday. Lt. Daniel Haugen was named interim superintendent of the Highway Patrol by Gov. Doug Burgum on Wednesday, according to a governor’s office news release.
