Microsoft is creating a new engineering division, led by the former global head of engineering at Facebook (now Meta), that will be responsible for building fundamental AI technologies and tools for the company and its customers.

The new division at Microsoft will combine its Dev Div and AI Platform teams together, with additional help from other employees.

The Redmond-headquartered company has been retooling its AI divisions over the past year, hiring former Inflection CEO Mustafa Suleyman to head Microsoft AI, which oversees the company’s AI-powered Copilot organization and other consumer products. Former Inflection chief scientist Karén Simonyan also left the startup for Microsoft.
