Ahead of this week’s Open Championship in his homeland, Rory McIlroy has donned his newly won Green Jacket at Royal Portrush. The Holywood man completed the career Grand Slam in April when he won The Masters after a play-off against Justin Rose.

While Rory McIlroy’s Masters triumph earned him a long-awaited career grand slam, a home Open Championship win at Royal Portrush could be even more emotion for the North Irishman.

Rory McIlroy is back at Royal Portrush and feeling plenty of love as the Masters champion. It's far different from when the British Open was last held in Northern Ireland.

It is a strong test for elite golfers, and a very difficult one for amateurs and the average golfer. It was found as the County Club in 1888 and became the Royal County Club in 1892. In 1895 it became Royal Portrush.

The 2025 Open Championship returns to Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland, the site of Shane Lowry's triumph in 2019. As has been the case all year, the strong favorites entering the tournament are Scottie Scheffler (9/2) and Rory McIlroy (7-1).

Golf's oldest championship returns to Royal Portrush. It's the third time the British Open has gone to the Northern Ireland links. Shane Lowry won in 2019.

After time off and a solid tune-up, McIlroy says he’s in a good spot heading into the major he circled from the start.
