At least 10 people are dead and many more injured as several fires broke out across Southern California amid historically dry and windy conditions.

Two people are confirmed dead Wednesday and a thousand structures have been destroyed by four southern California wildfires in Los Angeles County as windstorms up to hurricane strength continue to fan the deadly flames.

Eaton Fire initially started 6:18 p.m. Jan. 7 in Los Angeles County. Since its discovery four days ago, it has burned 14,117 acres. A fire crew of 2,832 has been working on site and, as of Saturday midnight, they managed to contain 3% of the fire. However, investigations into the cause are ongoing.

Pacific Palisades appeared more like a moonscape of destruction than an upscale neighborhood known for its ocean views, beautiful vistas and celebrity denizens.

The worst-case scenario materialized in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles, where an estimated 1,000 structures, many of them homes, have been destroyed by a Santa Ana-wind-fueled wildfire,

Fire crews gathered around a roof here, a fence there. But mostly, everything was just gone. The inferno had torn down the cliffs, destroyed the scarps, hopped the Pacific Coast Highway and ignited almost every last structure until it reached the sand.
