The Patriots’ other projected starting cornerback, Carlton Davis, has yet to fully participate in a practice since camp began. The nature and severity of Davis’ injury were unclear as of Wednesday. Before one practice last week, Vrabel said the offseason signing would be sidelined for a “maintenance day.”

That is massive news for the Patriots, especially with how impactful Gonzalez has been. Gonzalez ended the 2024 season with 59 total tackles, two interceptions, and 11 passes defended. He also posted a 55.7 percent completion percentage and 71.7 passer rating to opposing quarterbacks.
