An apology to the BYU men’s basketball program was issued from the X account belonging to the Providence athletic director for “unacceptable chants” during Tuesday night’s game at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, R.I.

The athletic director at Providence College — an East Coast catholic university — apologized to Brigham Young University on social media for offensive chants made by the student section during Tuesday’s men’s basketball game.

Providence College athletics director Steve Napolillo apologized to BYU’s basketball team after an offensive chant broke out at Amica Mutual Pavilion on Tuesday night. During the first half of BYU’s 83-64 loss to Providence, some fans started chanting “F--- the Mormons.” A video of the chant was posted to social media.
