Gov. Gavin Newsom unveiled his plan to redraw the state’s congressional maps in response to a Republican-led effort in Texas Thursday, setting up a standoff against a coalition of opponents.
Voters will be tasked with approving new congressional maps in a special election in November, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced.
“Our proposed map was created using traditional redistricting criteria, consistent with guidelines laid out by the California’s Citizen Redistricting Commission,” according to a cover letter from Julie Merz of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee included with the map.
