ATLANTA — The first three rounds of the 2025 MLB Draft took place Sunday in Atlanta. Although there were no draftees in attendance — a disappointing, if intriguing, circumstance to monitor for the event moving forward — this year’s draft still provided plenty of excitement and surprising moments that will help shape the league for years to come.
In 59 MLB Draft classes, a high school right-hander has never gone 1-1. Seth Hernandez is a top talent but is unlikely to be the first.

Arizona State outfielder Brandon Compton was picked in the second round of the 2025 MLB Draft, going 46th overall to the Miami Marlins.
The highest draft pick to come out of Venice High is right-handed pitcher Orion Kerkering, who was selected in the fifth round, 152nd overall, by Philadelphia out of the University of South Florida. Kerkering is a high-leverage reliever in the Phillies bullpen.
