In the hotly contested poll between BJP-led NDA and JMM-led INDIA bloc in Jharkhand, the people of the state seem to have restored their faith in the incumbent Hemant Soren government, show early trends.

Economist Swaminathan Aiyar suggests that the Congress-INDIA bloc might hold an advantage in the Jharkhand and Maharashtra assembly elections. While exit polls indicate a tight race, Aiyar believes the BJP-led NDA's chances are slightly better in Maharashtra.

Maharashtra saw a saffron wave as the BJP-led Mahayuti decimated the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi in state elections while INDIA bloc held its fortress in Jharkhand. Bypoll results were also declared for 48 assembly seats and two Lok Sabha seats.

While poll of polls have predicted BJP-led NDA’s victory in Jharkhand, the fight is going to be tough. The saffron party is projected to win 40 out of the 81 Assembly seats while its opponent INDIA bloc might be able to bag 37 seats.

Jharkhand is all set for the second phase of the high-stakes battle of ballots. Voting will be held tomorrow in 38 constituencies spread across 12 districts of the state. The first phase of the Jharkhand polls was held in 43 of 81 assembly seats on November 13.

The INDIA bloc - consisting of the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, the Congress, and the Rashtriya Janata Dal - has crossed the majority mark in the Assembly election in that state. The BJP took an early lead after the counting of votes began at 8 am,
