Fargo could be forced to return to traditional voting methods after becoming the first city in the nation to use approval voting in 2018.

Two proposals in the North Dakota Legislature seek to reshape how statewide and legislative candidates get on the ballot. The bills follow an election season that saw some legislative incumbents skip their local endorsing conventions and two candidates win primaries without support of the Republican party.

North Dakota members of the House on Monday voted to defund Prairie Public Broadcasting, with one lawmaker citing it as in line with federal cost-cutting. The House Appropriations Committee had recommended continuing to fund Prairie Public with $1.

In overwhelmingly defeating a bill to reinstate voter registration, some lawmakers said North Dakotans are proud their state is the only one not to require it.
