A lot goes into the production of eggs — and with the Trump administration’s tariff policies potentially affecting costs for chicken feed and equipment, bird flu isn’t the only reason U.S. consumers may continue to pay high prices for eggs at the grocery store.

Egg prices again reached a record high in February, as the bird flu continues to run rampant and Easter and Passover approach. The latest monthly Consumer Price Index showed a dozen Grade A eggs cost an average of $5.

The two biggest factors driving egg prices to record levels, but farmers are not getting rich. Expenses remain historically high, and farmers are continuing to fight through the risk of losing their flock to this devastating disease.
